Ieri sera siamo andati a festeggiare il compleanno di un'amica al Sultan's tent , un ristorante arabo che si trova non distante da Saint Laurence Market e dove si può assistere a uno spettacolo di danza del ventre.

Abbiamo speso abbastanza, ma il posto ne vale veramente la pena!!!

Bellissimo l'interno del ristorante, i tavoli si trovano sotto tende magrabine, i lampadari sono in stile marocchino e sul tavolo si hanno delle lanterne accese.

La cena è composta da 4 portate dall'antipasto al dolce e il cibo è assolutamente delicious!

Alla fine della cena viene anche offerto il tè alla menta.

Puoi scegliere ogni singola portata e il prezzo fisso per la sera è di 39.95 + drink + tasse + tips. Ci sono poi alcuni piatti nel menu che hanno un prezzo aggiuntivo al prezzo fisso.

Infine puoi assistere a uno spettacolo di danza del ventre, dove anche i clienti sono invitati a ballare.

La danzatrice era proprio una gran bella ragazza e sia Michele che gli altri ragazzi del gruppo si sono lustrati gli occhi per bene....

Esistono comunque dei luoghi di raccolta dei rifiuti dove ogni singolo cittadino può andare a portare i propri rifiuti e c'è anche qualche smart cittadino che si è inventato la raccolta a domicilio e viene a ritirarti la spazzatura a casa al costo di 5$ al sacco. Quindi la città è un po' sporca, ma la situazione non è così terribile.L'unico neo è che non si sa quando finirà questo sciopero, potrebbe durare anche tutta l'estate per quanto ne sappiamo.

Return to Toronto - jazz festival july 17/26 2009

Finally after two weeks of vacation we returned to Toronto in the new house.

Ci sono concerti gratuiti alla sera lungo le strade di Toronto (principalmente lungo Queen street est) e durante il week-end alcuni parchi ospitano 2-3 stages e ci sono concerti tutto il giorno.

Naturalmente c'è anche la possibiltià di mangiare sul posto, vi sono stand gastronomici etnici e aree giochi per i bambini. Gli alcolici possono essere acquistati in una zona a parte del parco, dover per poter accedere devi mostrare un documento di identità che viene controllato da due poliziotti.

Come conclusione delle nostre due settimane di vacanze "forzate"(visto che la nostra nuova casa è libera dal 14 di luglio), abbiamo deciso di visitare la città americana per eccellenza: New York.

Che dire, ne vale davvero la pena!

Siamo rimasti 5 notti, ma per visitarla tutta ci vorrebbe molto più tempo. Noi abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio, cercando di vedere il più possibile, ma ci siamo persi molte cose...eh toccherà ritornarci!

Ecco alcune info su New York che possono essere utili:

1. Si può scegliere di girare Ny in molti modi, la metropolitana è sicuramente il meno costoso . Noi abbiamo fatto un biglietto settimanale, al costo è di 27$ per persona. La metropolitana di Ny è ENORME (26 linee, 1100 km di rotaie!) , ma davvero efficiente. A differenza delle metropolitane italiane, qui è bene controllare la direzione della metropolitana prima di scendere le scale perchè per molte linee c'è un'entrata diversa (e in una strada diversa!) a seconda della direzione dove devi andare. Quindi se non si vuole sbagliare direzione,meglio controllare!

La metro funziona 24 ore su 24 e per lo stesso percorso esistono alcuni treni locali che si fermano ad ogni stazione e alcuni express che si fermano solo alle stazioni più importanti.

Unico neo negativo è che le stazioni sono piuttosto sporche e c'è capitato di vedere più di una volta dei bei rattoni girare tra le rotaie...

2. Esiste il Citypass a 79$ anzichè 140 che ti permette di vedere il Moma, il Guggenheim, la Statua della libertà, l'Empire state building, il Metropolitan Museum, Museum of natural history.

Se però non si è interessati a visitare solo un museo, non conviene farlo perchè il costo della visita alla statua (12$), dell'Empire state building (28$) e di un museo (circa 20$) è inferiore al costo del pass.
